Dr. Medalie is a board-certified plastic and reconstructive surgeon who originally hails from the east coast, having grown up in Washington D.C. and lived in both Boston and New York City. He graduated magna cum laude from Harvard University and then studied art in New York City at Parsons School of Design and the Art Student’s League prior to entering Cornell University Medical College. After his third year of medical school, he spent a year in Paris conducting research. At graduation, he and two classmates were recognized as the top three medical students in the graduating class. He then received the honor of being the first physician ever accepted into the new and highly regarded University of Pittsburgh Medical Center integrated plastic surgery training program. This comprehensive program combines six years of general and plastic surgery training with two additional years of intensive research.  Dr. Medalie decided to spend those two years at the Massachusetts General Hospital, Harvard Medical School and Shriners Burns Institute as a surgical research fellow studying gene therapy and skin tissue engineering.

Upon completion of his training, he was appointed assistant professor of plastic and reconstructive surgery at the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington, Kentucky. He remained there as an attending surgeon and director of the burn/wound clinic for three years prior to moving to Cleveland to be closer to family. For the next 4 years, he served as an assistant professor at University Hospitals and Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, and Chief of plastic surgery at the Cleveland VA Medical Center. He then transferred to
Metrohealth Medical Center in Cleveland and the Cleveland Clinic (adjunct teaching faculty). Since 2016 he has been in private practice with a continued role in teaching the plastic surgery residents at Case Western Reserve Medical School and University Hospital;s.

DR. MEDALIE'S PHOTOGRAPHY

I have always maintained a strong interest in art. Once I started medical school, however, I found that I had limited time to pursue my outside interests. Since plastic surgeons are always required to carry a camera for patient photographs, I developed a deeper interest in photography. With my purchase of a digital SLR eight years ago, I became much more serious about taking pictures and almost always have a camera with me. You never know when a good shot can be captured! I particularly enjoy "macro" photography (extreme close-up) because it appeals to my fine appreciation of detail. If you would like to see some of my photos, please click on the picture links below. This will take you to my Flickr site, where I share my work with the large online Flickr community. I love feedback on my work and encourage you to leave comments!
